Red, blue & yellow

Tips for Pokemon Red, Blue and Yellow versions:

Hunting tips
Use these tips to capture Pokemon:
  1. If possible, send out a Pokemon which has a lower level then the one you're trying to capture.
  2. Put the enermy to sleep, or paralyze them.
  3. Don't use really strong attacks.
  4. Reduce the Pokemon's strength till it's hp bar is red. The less hp it has, the easier it is to capture it.
  5. Use the best balls. Once you find great balls in a Pokemart then sell all your Pokeballs and stock up on the advanced balls. Make sure you always carry lots of extras as some Pokemon take a few attempts to capture.
  6. If you make a legendary Pokemon faint then it's gone forever and you'll never have a chance to capture it again. However, if  you save the game before the fight then you can just swith off then switch back on again if this happens. The legendary Pokemon are: Moltres (Victory road), Mewtwo(unknown dungeon), Zapdos(power plant), Articuno(seafoam islands) and Snorlax (routes 16 or 12).
  7. You don't have to worry about leaving a space in your team of 6 Pokemon as your captured Pokemon will be automaticly sent to the pc.

Experience training.

Put a low level Pokemon or one you want to train at the top of your list of 6 Pokemon. When you battle, that Pokemon will get experience points, even if it doesn't actualy fight!

Completing your Pokedex.

If you and your friends want to help each other complete your pokedex's but don't want to lose your Pokemon then you can always trade then trade straight back! You and your friends can also train each other's pokemon, giving you less things to do.

These pokemon don't appear in red: To get them you have to trade with someone who has a different version: Sandshrew, Sandslash, Vulpix, Ninetails, Meowth, Persian, Bellsprout, Weppingbell, Victreebell and Magma.

These pokemon don't appear in blue: Ekans, Arbok, Oddish, Gloom, Vileplume, Mankey, Primeape, Growlithe, Arcanine, Scyther, Electabuzz.

These pokemon don't appear in yellow: Meowth, Persian, Magma, Ekans, Arbok, Electabuzz, Weedle, Kakuna, Beedrill, Raichu, Koffing, Wheezing, Jynx.

Managing items

You can only carry a maximum of 20 items in your backpack. As an advanced girl guide camper I know that you should only pack the essentials! You can keep as many things as you like in the pc so put things in there that you don't need straight away. Like tm's, hm's, the ss anne ticket, keys etc.

All about Pokemon stats.

HP (hit points): Shows how much energy your pokemon has before it faints. Stronger pokemon have more hp then weaker ones. If you see your pokemon's hp bar is low then heal it or use a healthier pokemon quickly!

Attack: This shows how powerful your pokemon's attacks are.The more powerful the attack, the more damage you'll inflict on the opponent!

Defence: Shows how much damage your pokemon can take before it faints. High defence is just as important as high hp, mayby more important.

Speed: Shows how fast your pokemon is. In a battle, the pokemon with the highest speed attacks first. Speed may seem unimportant but it really isn't.

Special: Sort of like attack and defence rolled into one. It shows how powerful your pokemon's specil attacks are and how good it's defence is against an opponent's specil attacks.

Types of attacks

Multiple hits: When an attack is used on the opponent 2-5 times in one turn. You need a really strong pokemon to stand up to these types of attacks. These attacks are:  Barrage, bind, clamp, comet punch, double slap, fire spin, fury attack, fury swipes, pin missile, spike cannon, wrap.

One hit wonders: Moves which can knock out the opponent in one hit but have a very low success rate. Most of the time these are wasted moves. Think hard before teaching your pokemon moves like these. These moves are: Fissure, guillotine.
