My hamster is the best room-mate I could possibly have!

Although he's shy, and doesn't like it when I take him out of his cage,

He always listens.

He listens when I talk to him about all the problems in my life.

He listens to my sensitive writing, that I can't possibly tell anyone else.

And he somehow manages to put up with my loud music!

He never answers back, never argues or butts in a comment.

Never questions me, shouts at me or laughs at me.

Just sits there and listens.

And as I lay sulking in my bed, I hear him.

Nibbling on his treats or running on his wheel (which squeks),

It's comforting, as I know he's there for me.

He may not run and fetch a ball like a dog,

And I can't ride him like a horse.

But I can tell him anything.... and he listens.
