Kai shivered violently in the night air of Russia. He had been wondering the streets since he had been thrown out of the abbey. There was a violent snow storm coming down, the swirling snow blinding Kai but he kept forcing his feet forwards. He knew that if he just gave in, Boris would win and there was no way he was going to give him that satisfaction. The cold air bit painfully into his bare arms, numbing them but he was beyond caring. All he wanted to do was find shelter from the storm even if it was a bin on the street. The storm of snow was so heavy now that it was impossible to see anything around him but luckily, no cars would be out in this kind of weather so he would be perfectly safe.
The winds kicked up suddenly, forcing him forwards and slamming the freezing teenager into something cold and solid. Kai didnt stop to think what it was but pounded heavily on it, hearing something metallic snap and clatter to the ground. Not stopping, Kai ran as fast as his frozen legs would take him until he slipped on frozen water. Regaining his balance, Kai carefully slid his feet over the panel of ice, battling against the gale force winds. He slipped and fell a couple of times but refused to give in.
Finally, he reached the other side of the frozen water and continued to run until he crashed into a large door that had been boarded up with wood. Normally, Kai would have used his beyblade to smash right through it but couldnt risk having the only clue to his past blown away forever. Squinting, Kai could just make out the nails that were heavy from rust and forced a small smile. Wrapping his frozen fingers around the wood, Kai gave one hard tug and succeeded in forcing a large chunk of the wood away. The force of the pull knocked Kai onto his behind but he quickly got up to crawl through the hole he had made and into the warmth.
Kai stood still in the warmth, rubbing his body for a while until he started to feel his body again and his goose bumps disappeared. By now, his eyes had adjusted to the gloom and he gazed around at the new surroundings. Dust was heaped onto the fancy ornaments and pots with colourful complicated patterns. Cobwebs hung like curtains from every corner and Kai could have sworn that he saw something as big as his fist scuttle through a chewn hole in the wall. He started to explore the strange building but one thing just didnt add up to him. He felt like he knew where every corner and hallway went from somewhere in the back of his mind. It was strange and spooky but at the same time a bit reassuring to know where he was going. The feeling that he had been here before was growing and Kai strained to remember but couldnt get it.
The staircase that he now walked up threw up thick sheets of dust whenever his foot made contact. It was a long winding staircase that would have been covered in a thick dark red carpet. As his hands slid up the golden banister, Kai wondered why someone would want to attack a lovely place like this. Then the feeling came again. The feeling that he knew something but just couldnt think what it was.
Kai shrugged it off as he reached the first floor and, almost immediately, his feet seemed to take him down the hallway and to the fifth door on the right. Opening the door, Kai could make out what seemed to be a childs bedroom in the darkness. A four poster bed stood in the far corner of the room, still neatly made and with a small bear tucked into the covers. Shelves of old books covered one wall and a closet door was on the wall after that. Old, fading posters of old famous beyblade teams were attached to a large space of wall. Something about this room was oddly familiar too and it was really starting to bug Kai. The room, like the rest of the house, was covered in thick dust and abandoned cobwebs.
Glancing at the snow still whirling thickly in front of the window, Kai thought that it would be best to stay the night whilst the storm passed. From the looks of it, it wasnt going to go any time soon.
Kai strided over to the bed and flopped down on top of the covers, sending dust flying into the air which choked him for a minute or two. Kais gaze came upon the small teddy bear and he noticed a strange dark patch on one of its arms. Pulling it free from the covers, Kai brought it up to his face for closer inspection.
"Dont worry Kai. Accidents happen."
That voice sounded again in his memory, adding to the few clues that he had about his past. Feeling a bit awkward, Kai held the bear close to him and fell asleep.
The sound of band music playing woke Kai a few hours later. As he shook away his grogginess, Kai realised that the music was coming from inside the large house. After pinching himself hard in the arm, Kai became sure that he wasnt dreaming as he shoved the small bear into his pocket and went to investigate.
He walked slowly and cautiously down the stairs as he followed the strange music to its source. The house was still thickly coated with dust and cobwebs but there were definitely signs of life coming from behind some large doors at the end of the hall.
Slipping silently through a crack he had made, Kai ran through the shadows until he was hidden in a far corner. He could see an orchestra dressed in their best dining suits while playing a beautiful ballroom sympathy. Crowding the floor were dancing couples in a colourful mix of swirling silk dresses and smart tuxedos. In the front of him, sat in a far chair, was an elderly looking man in a magnificent red robe.
Kai watched, intrigued, as a young boy came running up and flung his arms around the mans knees. If Kai hadnt have been so young and healthy, he would have certainly had a heart attack. The messy style hair. The sleeveless black vest. The long white scarf. The blue triangle face markings. This boy was his exact double.
Still keeping in the shadows, Kai watched as the boy spoke with the elderly man but they were talking to quietly for him to hear. His shock grew further when the man drew a beyblade out of his pocket and gave it to the young boy. A beyblade that looked so familiar. Pulling Dranzer out of his pocket, Kai looked at the beyblade in the boys hand, then back to his.
The two beyblades were the same as well. From where he was standing, Kai could just about see the image on the boys beyblade. It was Dranzer. But that was impossible!
Kai didnt notice the band and dancers stop straight away but he suddenly became aware of a dark cloaked figure descending across the great hall. The old man was now standing and speaking with him but Kai still couldnt hear him or see his face. He momentarily glanced at the boy, who was clinging onto who looked like his mother.
The dark figure gave a sinister smile before launching his own black beyblade, which instantly began to set to work destroying the entire room. Guests started to scream in terror as they all frantically tried to reach the door but were stopped by large pieces of falling ceiling.
Kai was frozen to the spot and watched as the dark figure called out his bit beast. A large dark phoenix that looked almost exactly like Dranzer. The ink black wings rose to the ceiling, causing it to cave in, while its two red slit eyes burned as hot as the fires of hell itself.
A strange familiar feeling of terror came over Kai and he turned on his heels and ran, surprisingly managing to reach the door with ease. In all the life that he could remember, he had never felt fear like this. But it was a familiar fear. Almost as if he had been through this before. Ever since he had first set eyes upon this house, he had been having the feeling that he knew more then other people about it. But why? Was it anything to do with the past he didnt remember?
Kai didnt notice the images of his past fade and the room turn back to normal as he was already out of the door and running with some difficulty over the thick blanket of snow that had been left from the storm. He didnt stop running until he turned into a side alley by what looked like a hotel. Then he passed out from exhaustion.
